Research page 4

For my next research page I looked at food in books:

Cooking books are  full of photography art. Cakes, pies and roast dinners are all captured in such a way that makes you want to eat them, even if you are full. The lighting, position and focus are key.

Like this plate of cupcakes. There is one in focus while the others behind it are out of focus. This helps draw your eye in to the picture.
The photographer has used a small aperture number to achieve this, probably about 4 or 5.6.
The shutter speed was probably about 8, 15 because they are just about the speed that an eye blinks, though this will have let little light in so they have compensated with lights around the room.

The colour in this picture is very bright and full, this is very pleasing on the eye. After all we eat with our eyes, having to approve on the look of the meal/dessert before eating it. Bright colours help with this.

Lighting coming from background.
And from the left.

Its the same with this picture, the background is blurred with the cake in focus.
Not having the whole cake in the picture is very artistic. If you had the whole cupcake in the shot it would just look like a snap shot, also the case is not the most important part, the cake is.
