For this brief we have to research, plan, design, create and shoot our own 1950s style food advert. Using ideas and styles from research gathered I will take a black and white picture of a food of my choice and make an advert from it. I will include: A catchy slogan, a brief description of the product, the company name and the price. I will be using my family as the models in my shoot as I think it adds a more 'homey' feel to the whole thing.
For the first part of our research we had an actor/dancer from college, take some time off his lessons so that we could use him in a photo shoot as practice for our final image and set up. We set the lighting up, what he wore, where he stood, what position he was in and how he held the product in question. We had to do a photo shoot for 'Quaker Oats'. There was also a giant 'TV screen' prop that we used in some of the shots so that it looked like a real TV advert. Our aim was to capture a head shot, a full length shot and one with bubbles in. After the pictures were taken we put two of our favourite in photoshop and had a few hours to edit them how we saw fit. We had to add some sort of slogan to the image and choose our favourite.

Here are the images and the processes I went through:
This was the first outfit that the tutor picked for the test shots.
This is a TV set that was made for the photo shoot.
This was one of the outfits that I chose.
I liked black and white better then colour because I think it makes the advert look more old style.
I chose this as my final image to edit in photoshop:
All I did for this one was change the 'Saturation':
First I loaded the chosen image into Photoshop.
Then I clicked on 'Hue and Saturation'.
And made it black and white.
Then I clicked on 'Photo Filter' and used the colour orange to add a hue of slight colour and depth to the image.
Like this.
Then I used the 'Text' tool and wrote my slogan which in this case was: "Scotts Porage Oats, OOTS!"
There were two reasons for choosing this slogan: The first being that Scotts people are known quite well for saying 'OOTS' when they are shocked, it's a kind of stereotypical saying, and the second is that he is not the ugliest model in the world so it was also an exclamation of 'WOW'. The last thing I did on Photoshop was merge all the layers of my image down to one and then save it.
For this image I did the same kind of thing but with the colour Red:
First I added the image into Photoshop.
Then I used the 'Photo Filter' tool and changed the colour from orange to red.
Then added the right amount of red hue to the image as I wanted.
Then I used the 'Text' tool and wrote my other slogan, which is "Scotts Porage Oats, GET YOUR OWN!!"
This is because the model is pointing up, and has an expression on his face like he is shouting at someone.
The I shaped the bottom sentance so it curved, I did this so it stood out and made you read it.
Then I merged all the layers so that I could save it as a JPEG.
