Adverts have gone through many changes over the years. One thing they are all really going for is a catchy theme tune that sticks in your head. There was once a time where the font was all that caught your attention.
Like in this advert:
The colour and picture also adds appeal to the eye but the font adds fun to the poster. The way it curls and loops tell you that this is intended to entice a child. I think the font is called 'Reklame Script'. The slogan helps to sell the product well: "The candy bar that's like a chocolate nut sundae!" That to me tells me that this is the best of two treats: A chocolate bar and a sundae.
Another thing about 1950s style adverts is that they tended to lean towards sexisum. Like this advert:
Don't get me wrong, I think it's quite funny but there are woman around today that would take great affence to this sort of advertising these days.
Here is another type of advert from the 1950s.
Chocolate is something I love and this advert really entises me to buy some. The way the chocolate is dripping onto the biscuits really makes me hungry.
I will be taking all of these pointers into consideration when I am designing my own ideas.
